WPL 2025: Harmanpreet Kaur surpasses Shafali Verma in WPL top scorers list; Mumbai Indians score 100 runs in 10 overs

Mumbai Indians’ captain Harmanpreet Kaur continues to shine in the Women’s Premier League 2025 as she surpassed Delhi Capitals’ Shafali Verma to become the third-highest run-getter in the tournament so far. Kaur, who played a crucial role in MI’s title-winning campaign last season, is leading from the front again with a fiery knock against Delhi Capitals.

Coming in at a critical stage, Kaur played with intent, scoring a rapid 42 off just 21 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. This performance has taken her past Verma’s 561 runs in the ongoing season, putting her in the top three of the highest run-getters. MI’s innings gained momentum with her partnership alongside Nat Sciver-Brunt, who has also been in sensational form this season.

Sciver-Brunt, who had an exceptional WPL 2023 season, continued her dominance with a well-compiled 45 off 33 balls, including eight fours. She remains one of the tournament’s most consistent players, having been Mumbai’s highest run-getter in the inaugural season while also contributing with the ball.

Mumbai Indians have capitalized on this partnership, reaching 105/2 in 10.4 overs, setting themselves up for a formidable total. With Kaur and Sciver-Brunt in fine touch, MI will look to post a challenging target for Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s bowlers have struggled to break the momentum after an early breakthrough by Shikha Pandey, who removed both MI openers. Annabel Sutherland has leaked runs, conceding 25 in just 1.4 overs, while Minnu Mani has been more economical but failed to get a breakthrough.

With Mumbai Indians looking to cross the 180-run mark, the onus is on the Delhi Capitals bowlers to step up and contain the onslaught. It remains to be seen how Meg Lanning’s side will respond to this challenge.
