Actor Ameesha Patel has shared personal insights into her family’s longstanding ties with the Nehru-Gandhi family, revealing how politics and personal life often intersected in her upbringing. In a recent interaction with Bollywood Bubble, she spoke about the influence of her grandfather, Rajni Patel, a prominent legal and political figure.
According to Ameesha, her grandfather maintained a close association with Indira Gandhi, often engaging with her on key matters during his political journey. This professional relationship, she noted, naturally extended into their personal lives, shaping several important family moments.
Recalling one such instance, Ameesha revealed that Indira Gandhi played a direct role in finalising her parents’ wedding date. Instead of following traditional customs, the family relied on her availability to set the occasion, which was eventually held on July 4 at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai. The anecdote highlights the depth of the bond shared between the two families.
She further shared that the connection continued into her early childhood. When she was born, Indira Gandhi was among the first to visit her, underlining the personal warmth between them. Ameesha also spoke about her grandfather’s contributions beyond politics, including his role in building the Nehru Planetarium in honour of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Reflecting on her formative years, the actor said she grew up surrounded by prominent figures from politics and art, including MF Husain, offering a glimpse into a uniquely influential environment.
