Anti-cow slaughter bill passed in Karnataka

The BJP Government in Karnataka passed the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2020. This bill sets a total ban on the slaughter of cows in the state and strict punishment to those who are involved in smuggling, illegal transportation, atrocities on cows and slaughtering them. This bill is a modified version of the same bill passed in 2010, with revised punishments. Penalty for infringement starts from Rs 15,000 to Rs 5,00,000 and a jail ranging from 3 to 7 years.
