Earlier Australia had initially penciled to play three matches but a Cricket Australia spokesman said on Wednesday it was their intention to play five matches of T20Is. According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operation chairman Akram Khan, Cricket Australia (CA) has decided to play five T20Is instead of three on their tour to Bangladesh in August.
The tour against Bangladesh has been extended to five games across nine days. This five-match series against Australia is a part of the preparation for the Bangladesh team in the perspective of the upcoming T20 World Cup. Australia was set to play against Bangladesh last year for two tests but it was postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic. The five-match campaign is set to take place immediately after Australia’s white-ball tour to West Indies, the two-time T20 world champions.
Australia to play 10 T20I before T20 World Cup. The first five will take in West Indies after that they will play five T20Is against Bangladesh too which gives them a major boost for preparation for the 2021 T20 World Cup, which is slated to start in October in either India or the UAE. The men’s T20 World Cup is the only trophy Australia is yet to achieve. They were once a finalist in 2010 against their arch-rivals England. This year with a blast of ten T20Is might help Australia to achieve their first T20 World Cup trophy.
