Bengaluru Police Arrest Kannada Actor Charith Balappa in Sexual Harassment Case

Bengaluru police arrested Kannada television actor Charith Balappa on Friday on charges of sexual harassment, assault, and criminal intimidation. The allegations were brought forward by a 29-year-old female actor who works in both Kannada and Telugu serials.

According to the police, the alleged incidents occurred between November 2023 and December 2024. Charith, known for his role in the Kannada serial Muddulakshmi, reportedly pressured the complainant into a physical relationship, threatening to tarnish her reputation if she refused. The woman claimed that he also barged into her house with associates, harassed her, and demanded money.

The FIR stated that Charith, a divorcee, threatened to share private photos on social media and in WhatsApp groups, including ones with other actors. He allegedly boasted of connections with influential politicians, rowdy elements, and police officers, threatening to file false cases and have her imprisoned.

The complainant further accused him of mental and physical torture, claiming he even threatened to kill her. The case, registered at Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station, includes charges under sections for causing hurt, extortion, criminal intimidation, and sexual harassment under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police confirmed Charith’s arrest and stated that further investigation is ongoing. The incident has sparked outrage within the Kannada television industry, with calls for stringent action against the accused.
