Captain America: Brave New World is just around the corner, with fans eagerly awaiting Anthony Mackie’s portrayal of the new Captain America. However, ahead of the film’s release, some major spoilers have been revealed.
Two actors, Rosa Salazar and Logan Kim, were originally expected to make their MCU debut in the film but will no longer appear on screen. According to the filmmakers, Salazar was initially cast as the movie’s antagonist. However, her character didn’t quite align with the tone and vision the director, Julius Onah, had for the film. As a result, Salazar’s role was scrapped.
In the film, Sam Wilson, now taking on the mantle of Captain America, will face off against the Red Hulk, played by none other than Harrison Ford. Onah spoke about the creative process behind the film, mentioning the difficulty of adapting certain characters like the Serpent Society from the comics. These characters, known for being dressed as snakes and having snake-like abilities, required a bit of tweaking to fit into the movie’s narrative.
Onah also hinted at the evolution of the film’s characters and how the additional photography period helped shape the movie. He acknowledged the importance of casting someone who could bring a unique gravitas to the film, which led to the casting of Giancarlo Esposito. Once Esposito became available, it felt like the perfect fit for the role.
Aside from Mackie and Ford, Captain America: Brave New World will feature a stellar cast, including Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, and Tim Blake Nelson, with Liv Tyler also making her return to the MCU.
The film is set to hit theaters on February 14, and fans can’t wait to see Mackie in action as he carries on the legacy of Steve Rogers, battling the formidable Red Hulk and other threats in this next chapter of the MCU.
