Champions Trophy 2025: South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan in fierce battle for semi final spot as England thrashed out of CT 2025

With the Champions Trophy 2025, almost halfway, Group B is heating up with England out of the semi-final race. England lost two consecutive matches against Australia and Afghanistan and are now officially out of the race of the championship.

With yesterday’s clash between South Africa and Australia abandoned due to rain, the three teams of the group Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan are still alive in the semi-final race. With the top two teams of the group moving into the semi-finals stage, any two teams out of these three can qualify at this point.

From this point, for South Africa to qualify it has to win against England and could take top spot even if Australia beat Afghanistan, as long as their net run-rate tops Australia’s but a defeat to England could knock them out if England and Australia both beat Afghanistan.

For Afghanistan to qualify it must defeat Australia in its last game. However for Australia to win they just need to win against Afghanistan but if they fail to do so they will hope that England beat the Proteas by a big margin to reduce South Africa’s net run rate below Australia’s.
