Just when Afghanistan were making a comeback in the game with a hundred run partnership between opener Ibrahim Zadran and the skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, England’s key spinner came into the attack and took the much needed wicket to bring England back into the game.
Adil Rashid, who gave 29 runs in his first spell was brought into the attack in the 30th over. In the 29th over, Zadran and Shahidi had completed a century stand between them but could not extend the partnership as Rashid rattled the Afghani skipper to end his 40 runs knock. Shahidi tried to reverse sweep the ball but the gap between the pad and the bat dislodged the stump.
With 20 overs left, the pressure fell on Ibrahim Zadran to put up a decent total on the board. Zadran is currently batting in 80s and is now joined by Azmatullah Omarzai.
