Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal are bracing for colder nights as winter sets in firmly across the state. The minimum temperature in Kolkata dropped to 19 degrees Celsius on Sunday, down slightly from 19.3 degrees on Saturday. Weather experts predict further decreases in the coming days.
Southern Bengal experienced a sharp drop, with several districts recording chilly conditions. Sriniketan reported the lowest temperature in the region at 13.1 degrees Celsius. Jhargram, Siuri, and other districts also saw minimum temperatures fall below 15 degrees Celsius. In northern Bengal, the chill was more pronounced, with hill stations like Darjeeling recording a minimum of 9.4 degrees Celsius. Kalimpong, Raiganj, and Alipurduar reported minimum temperatures ranging from 14.5 to 16 degrees Celsius.
Strong winds are expected to intensify the cold, particularly at night, with a further drop of 2-3 degrees predicted in areas near the Himalayas. However, weather officials confirm no significant changes in temperature over the next two days for the rest of the state.
The forecast remains dry, with no rainfall expected anywhere in Bengal, ensuring a continuation of clear skies and brisk winter conditions. As residents prepare for colder nights, the weather is offering a true taste of the season.
