Delhi High Court extends relief to Rajpal Yadav in cheque bounce case after partial repayment

Actor Rajpal Yadav has received temporary relief from the Delhi High Court in connection with a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case, with the court deciding not to send him back to jail for now. The development comes weeks after the actor was released from Tihar Jail on interim bail.

On Wednesday, the court refused to cancel its earlier order that had suspended his sentence and instead extended the relief until April 1. The decision was influenced by the court’s observation that the actor has been cooperating with legal proceedings and has already paid a significant portion of the outstanding amount.

The bench, led by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, noted that Yadav has been consistently appearing before the court and is not attempting to evade the process. The judge also acknowledged that he had previously spent time in custody, further weighing in his favour.

Earlier hearings had required the actor to deposit ₹1.5 crore as part of the conditions for interim relief. Following confirmation from the complainant’s legal representatives that the amount had been credited, the court had granted him bail upon submission of a ₹1 lakh bond along with a surety.

The case, linked to financial disputes involving bounced cheques, had earlier led to Yadav’s imprisonment, drawing public attention. With the latest order, the actor has been granted more time as proceedings continue, offering him temporary respite while the matter remains under judicial consideration.
