Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut Emergency witnessed a slight improvement on its second day, earning Rs 3.42 crore nett in India on Saturday, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. This marks a 36.8% increase from its opening day collection of Rs 2.4 crore, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 5.92 crore. However, these numbers fall short of the benchmark required for the film to achieve box office success.
The film, a historical biographical drama, saw an overall occupancy of 15.41% in the Hindi market on Saturday. Morning shows registered a low 5.95% occupancy, which gradually improved to 21.69% by night. Despite this marginal progress, the figures remain underwhelming for a film with a reported budget of Rs 60 crore.
For Ranaut, Emergency is a pivotal project, both as her first solo directorial venture and as a potential box office comeback after five years without a hit. Compared to her previous releases like Judgementall Hai Kya (Rs 7.5 crore) and Panga (Rs 5.61 crore), the film’s performance is lackluster. However, it fares better than recent flops such as Thalaivii (Rs 1.6 crore) and Tejas (Rs 1.3 crore).
Given the mixed reviews and a slow opening weekend, Emergency faces an uphill battle to break even. The coming days will determine whether the film can gain momentum or remain another underperformer in Kangana Ranaut’s filmography.
