On Sunday evening, a fire broke out at a marriage hall on Foreshore Road in Howrah. All the chairs and tables kept for the wedding are burnt into ashes.
According to local sources, there is a function building called ‘Howrah Bhavan’ on the banks of the Ganga on the Foreshore Road. Around 5:30 pm on Sunday, a fire broke out in a part of a pandal set up for a wedding in that building. Within a few minutes, the whole pandal started to burn.
The fire spread in no time due to the large amount of flammable material. People came out of nearby houses to help. On receiving the information, three fire engines went to the spot. The work of extinguishing the fire begins.
Fire officer Tapan Mondal said that they came to the spot after receiving information about the fire in the wedding hall. The pandal was made of bamboo. From there, the entire building went on fire. Many items in the building were burnt.
It is not yet clear how the fire started. However, initially it is believed that the problem has occurred due to a short circuit. No one was present when the fire broke out.
Fire officials said that there was no fire extinguishing system in the building. Even no person was found in charge of the building.
A person named Akhilesh Gupta said that his niece is getting married on November 22. They booked the hall, and the Pandal was built for them. He came to see the preparations and got the news of the fire.
