The former pace bowler Nuwan Zoysa from Sri Lanka has been banned for six years on account of fixing matches. The 42 year old bowler played around 30 Tests and 95 ODIs for Sri Lanka and also took 172 international wickets in his career.

Nuwan Zoysa was initially convicted in 2018, prior to that he was a part of the T10 competition coordinated in the UAE in 2017.

ICC has charged him under the following articles:

Article 2.1.1 which means being party to an effort to fix or contrive or to otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect of an International match.

Article 2.1.4 that is directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing or encouraging a player to breach Code Article 2.1.1.

Article 2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit full details of any approaches or invitations he received to engage in corrupt conduct.

Alex Marshall, ICC General Manager, said, “In his role as a national coach, he should have acted as a role model. Instead, he became involved with a corrupter and attempted to corrupt others.”

He also said that “Contriving to fix a game betrays the basis of sporting principles. It will not be tolerated in our sport.”
