Gary Stead siad that Kane Williamson will be available to lead New Zealand in WTC final

Blackcaps head coach Gary Stead announced on Tuesday that Kane Williamson will be available to lead New Zealand against India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, as he revealed a 15-man squad for the marquee clash starting from June 18. A few days ago, captain Kane was forced to miss the second Test against England due to an elbow injury and Tom Latham had led New Zealand to a comfortable eight-wicket win, which sealed a series victory for the Kiwis.

The wicket-keeper Bj Watling who also missed the second Test due to a back injury has been named to the squad. Head coach Gary Stead said at the press conference after the Blackcaps team arrived in Southampton, “Kane and BJ have certainly benefitted from their week of rest and rehabilitation and we expect them to be fit and available for the WTC final.”

He added, “Playing in the WTC final is a really special occasion and I know the guys are looking forward to getting into their work here in Southampton.” The head coach also stated that it is going to be a tough challenge facing India. The New Zealand squad announced for WTC final: Kane Williamson (c), Tom Latham (Vc), Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Colin de Grandhomme, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Blundell, Henry Nicholls, Ajaz Patel, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling and Will Young.
