Godzilla just became the Avengers’ biggest threat

Marvel Comics is preparing for an epic crossover event in 2025 as Godzilla returns to the Marvel Universe after almost 50 years. The six-issue comic run, titled Godzilla vs. Marvel, will feature the legendary Kaiju clashing with heroes like the Fantastic Four, Thor, Spider-Man, and more.

The series begins in March 2025 with Godzilla vs. the Fantastic Four, where King Ghidorah, now a herald of Galactus, takes center stage. Interestingly, Godzilla will be portrayed as a hero in this story, teaming up with the Silver Surfer to save Earth. The six issues will cover various eras, offering a mix of historical and contemporary Marvel storytelling.

This project has been in development for years. Sven Larsen, Marvel’s VP of Licensing, worked with Toho, the owners of Godzilla, to secure the rights. Initially intended as a reprint of Marvel’s 1977 Godzilla: King of the Monsters series, the collaboration evolved into an entirely new storyline to coincide with Godzilla’s 70th anniversary in 2025.

Beyond comics, Godzilla’s 70th anniversary has brought collaborations with brands like Transformers, Funko, and Uniqlo, as well as special merchandise. Fans can also explore reprints of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, available in collectible variant covers, though these are not available digitally.

The combination of Godzilla’s epic scale and Marvel’s cosmic storytelling promises a thrilling narrative. With King Ghidorah as a herald of Galactus and Godzilla taking on the role of Earth’s unlikely defender, this crossover is set to deliver an unforgettable clash of icons. Fans can start collecting the new series in March 2025.
