How India can dominate the T20

T20 cricket is what brought this amazing sport back into the limelight. Sure, test cricket still has its place, but the pace of this game has made it one of the most exciting sports to watch. With the increased pace of play came a renewed interest in betting on the sport. Being able to bet mid-match, with cricket live odds, has taken this to a whole new level.

It was back in 2007, when T20 saw its first world cup, that India dominated the world and took the title. It has been a rocky road since as the team has been unable to recapture any of its former glory. With its trophy cabinet standing empty, what does India need to do to get back on top and fulfil its potential in the T20 scene? Let’s take a look.

Don’t be afraid to experiment

Something that India needs to do, if it once again wants to become a force to be reckoned with, is to take more risks. Now, we’re not suggesting that ludicrous risks are the way forward, but it has to be noted that each time India has broken away from the norm of late, it has been rewarded.

The appointment of Rahul Dravid has seen a new kind of play. He hasn’t been afraid to try new things. Whether it’s been about changing the batting order or introducing new bowlers, Dravid has shown that experimenting pays off and the hope is that the team will continue to do this.

Stay grounded

Yes, there have been successes, but these are nowhere close to the achievements of 2007. Victories of late have been against lesser teams where the win would, at least at one time, have been expected. Getting carried away with such victories will not benefit the team in any way.

That’s where Dravid comes in again. He knows well enough that the team has developed, but he also knows that now is not the time to get carried away. Any wins need to be put into perspective and there always has to be an eye on the next match.

Continue to build

India hasn’t stood still in terms of developing new players and it’s a good job that it hasn’t. At times when the likes of Kohli are out of action, the team needs to know that it can still play and that it can still win. While superstars are a welcome addition to any team, a one-man show isn’t what can carry India forward.

That’s why it’s been amazing to see players like Iyer continue to develop and flourish. Watching how Iyer has matured and quickly become an outstanding player, is nothing short of inspirational. While this should spur on those who are trying to break into the team now, it should also act as a source of inspiration for the next generation.

India has plenty of promise for the future, but whether it is ready to deliver right now remains to be seen.
