The mystery surrounding Virat Kohli’s absence was put to rest on Sunday when AB de Villiers disclosed on his YouTube channel that the India player is with his family because he and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child.
Five days after revealing the information, de Villiers has, however, dramatically changed his statement, stating that he ‘ made a big mistake’ and that his information was incorrect.
In a chat with Dainik Bhaskar, AB de Villiers said, “Family comes first and then Cricket. I made a terrible mistake on my YouTube channel. That information was wrong and not true at all. Virat has every right to take a break from national duties due to family reasons. I think whatever’s best for Virat’s family, comes first. No one knows what’s happening there, all I can do is wish him well. Whatever the reason for his break, I hope he can come back stronger, better and fresh from this.”
While engaging in various media interactions on the SA20 sidelines, De Villiers corrected his statement. However, the former South African captain’s wrong comment of such magnitude is quite unexpected.
Kohli’s choice has divided the cricketing world. His decision to put his family before playing for India has upset some fans, but his peers supported his decision.
