An infiltration attempt in the Nowshera sector of poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir was thwarted by the Indian Army, resulting in the neutralization of two terrorists, officials confirmed on Monday.
The operation, code-named *OP KANCHI*, was launched based on intelligence inputs from security agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. According to a post by the Army’s White Knight Corps on X (formerly Twitter), the anti-infiltration operation was initiated on the night of September 8-9 in the general area of Lam, Nowshera.
“Two terrorists have been neutralised, and a large quantity of war-like stores, including two AK-47 rifles and a pistol, have been recovered. The search operation is ongoing,” the statement read.
This incident comes just days ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the first since December 2014. The elections follow significant political changes in the region, including the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories: Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The situation remains tense as security forces continue their search operations in the area.
