India’s Got Latent Controversy: Ranveer Allahbadia apologises

In an appearance before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday, the content creators involved in the contentious India’s Got Latent YouTube show expressed regret for the remarks made in the show and promised to be careful with their words, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said on Friday. The content creators include comedians Jaspreet Singh and Ashish Chanchlani, YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, well known as “The Rebel Kid,” and Samay Raina, the host of India’s Got Latent.

Following criticism of Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments regarding parents and sex as well as some of Apoora Mukhija’s utterances, the particular episode of India’s Got Latent caused controversy. According to sources quoted in a news agency PTI report, the panel also heard from the show’s producers, Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari, as well as the attorneys for comedian Jaspreet Singh and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani.

NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar declared during a press briefing that the show’s use of profanity is “completely indecent” and that the commission will never tolerate it. “Neither the Commission nor the people find such language acceptable. I vehemently oppose it. NCW took notice of it right away, considering its societal impact, and we sent them a notice.”

For his remarks on parents and sex on Samay Raina’s show, Ranveer Allahbadia, better known by his stage name BeerBiceps, was the target of multiple formal complaints. Nonetheless, Ranveer Allahbadia was given temporary protection from arrest by the Supreme Court due to his remarks on the show, which he described as “vulgar” and claimed he had a “dirty mind” that embarrassed society.
