Delhi Capitals have gone through a lot since the starting of the league and for the past two seasons, they are having a great run in the league. They have reached their maiden IPL final and are gearing up to come up with another great performance in the upcoming edition as well. Delhi has had a great auction where they have added a few of the great names from the world of cricket.
The head coach of the Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting hinted about possible batting order ahead of the season. Delhi Capitals have, however, dealt with a big blow as their Inform captain Shreyas Iyer is about to miss the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League due to a shoulder injury but there is enough player in their squad to step up in need. Ricky Ponting also revealed that the former Australian captain Steve Smith could be in the top three for the Delhi capitals. While many experts are of the view Smith could find a place regularly in the team with Ponting’s presence as a coach.
After considering all options inside the team the Delhi team management has decided to give Rishabh Pant a green signal to lead the side despite having some experienced players like Shikhar Dhawan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane. Pant also has been the captain of the Delhi side in domestic cricket in the past. As the DC Chairman & Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi puts it that Pant embodies the “passionate and fearless brand of cricket” that DC plays. Head coach Ricky Ponting called Pant’s appointment a “tremendous opportunity.” Shreyas Iyer also called Pant’s appointment as “best man for the job”.
Moving further, Delhi Capitals kick start their campaign against Chennai Super Kings on April 10 in Mumbai.
