IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings Coach Stephen Fleming gives update on MS Dhoni’s Parents Health

Following MS Dhoni’s parents’ COVID-19 diagnosis, Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming stated that all support is in place for the skipper and his family. Dhoni’s father, Pan Singh, and mother, Devaki Devi, both tested positive for COVID-19 and are being treated at Ranchi’s Pulse Hospital.

At the post-match press conference after CSK’s win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday night, Fleming said the situation is “under control”.

Dhoni overcame adversity to lead Chennai Super Kings to an 18-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Wednesday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match in Mumbai. Dhoni remained focused on the task at hand and marshalled the team effectively as CSK jumped to the top of the IPL points table following their victory.

“From a management point of view, we are well aware of his family’s situation. And the support is set up for MS and his family. Talking with MS, the situation is under control for now but we’ll monitor it in the next few days. It’s a tough time for everybody,” Fleming said in a virtual press conference after the match against Kolkata Knight Riders which CSK won by 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

“It’s (Covid-19) affecting India the way it is and it is reaching IPL with friends and family and hopefully not to the bubbles. We spent quite a bit of time talking about the care of friends and families in the wider group. We have that responsibility that MS has the support that he needs. We hope that his family recovers quickly,” he added.

Notably, it was the third successive win for CSK in IPL 2021 as the 3-time champions are returning to peak form after a poor run in the UAE last year.

CSK will look to maintain their winning streak when they face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday in Mumbai. A fight at the top of the table.
