IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant’s batting has always been an X-factor, but he is an aggressive captain, says Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan on looking up to Rishabh Pant but exposes his past downsides.

Six of the top ten wicket-takers are under the age of 30 this season. Harshal Patel (17 wickets) of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) barely fails the cut for that grade, as he is 30 years and 156 days old. Avesh Khan, a 24-year-old right-arm fast medium bowler from Madhya Pradesh who plays for the Delhi Capitals, is right behind Harshal on that list.

Avesh was a member of India’s 2016 Under-19 World Cup team, which included his current IPL captain, Rishabh Pant. At Delhi Capitals, the friendship between Pant and Avesh is palpable. For the two of them, there is a mutual understanding. Pant, who was selected as a wicket-keeper batsman in the U-19 World Cup squad, was a standout performer for Avesh. But here’s what Avesh had to say about Pant in an exclusive interview with Times of India, “Rishabh was aggressive since the under-19 days. His approach was different from others. He always wanted to win and do something different. His batting has always  been an X-factor. Whenever he bats, there is pressure on the opposition team. He is a mature player now. He understands the game, situations and conditions well and bats according to those”.
