Amy Slaton, the well-known star from TLC’s 1000-Lb Sisters, has reportedly reached a plea deal in her case of “simple possession.” This has led fans to wonder if this means she’ll be swapping her reality TV fame for time behind bars.
The 37-year-old reality star’s legal troubles began when she was arrested in September 2024 at a Tennessee zoo for possession of psychedelic mushrooms. The charge of simple possession is a criminal offense, typically involving a small amount of illegal drugs. Since the arrest, fans have been anxiously following her case, unsure of what consequences she would face.
On December 19, 2024, court documents obtained by Us Weekly revealed that Slaton had accepted a plea deal, admitting to the charge. As a result, she was given a suspended sentence of nearly 12 months (11 months and 29 days) but would not have to serve time in jail. Instead, she was ordered to complete two years of supervised probation, pay a $500 fine, and undergo an alcohol and drug assessment. Additionally, she was banned from the Tennessee Safari Park where the incident occurred.
This all started when authorities were called to the zoo because someone had been bitten by a camel. When officers arrived, they noticed “suspicious odors” coming from Slaton’s vehicle. Upon further inspection, they discovered psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana inside her car, with her two young sons, Gage (4) and Glenn (2), in the back seat. Slaton and her companion, Brian Scott Lovvorn, who was with her during the trip, were both arrested after the substances were found. It was believed that both Slaton and Lovvorn had taken some of the drugs before authorities were called.
Before being taken into custody, Slaton was reportedly rushed to the hospital to treat injuries from the camel bite. The arrest led to a $10,000 bond for both Slaton and Lovvorn, and the Department of Children and Family Services stepped in to make sure her children were safe.
While Lovvorn’s case is still unresolved, Slaton seems to be moving on. Recently, she posted on social media, showing her enjoying life with her kids during the holiday season. One post featured her sons, Gage and Glenn, in matching Grinch-themed outfits as they met Santa, highlighting their fun and festive mood.
Amy Slaton first gained fame on TLC’s 1000-Lb Sisters, which premiered in 2020.
