Kate Beckinsale recently opened up about the mistreatment she experienced while working on several film sets in the past. Her comments came after Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against her co-star Justin Baldoni, which Beckinsale supported in her Instagram post.
In her video, the Underworld actress recalled a particularly disturbing experience working with an unnamed co-star who was often drunk during filming. Beckinsale explained that she raised her concerns, saying, “I’m finding it very difficult—my co-star is drunk every day and he’s obviously going through something, and I have full sympathy for that, but I’m also waiting, as is the whole crew, six hours a day, for him to learn his lines. And it means I’m not getting to see my daughter in the evenings, ever, for the whole movie.” Despite speaking up, her concerns were ignored, and she was reportedly referred to as “that c**t” both over the walkie-talkie and in person, which she described as humiliating.
She also shared that during this time, she was subjected to a strict diet and exercise regime that caused her to miss two periods, which affected her physical well-being. In addition, Beckinsale expressed how unsafe she felt during fight sequences in two different movies, stating she had to undergo MRIs to prove her injuries were real.
The actress further revealed how her attempts to speak out about these issues led to her being gaslit, made to feel like the problem, and even excluded from cast dinners. One particularly shocking incident she recalled was when her publicist forced her to do a photoshoot just one day after she had suffered a miscarriage. When Beckinsale tried to explain that she was “bleeding out a miscarriage,” the publicist responded coldly, saying, “You’ll have to or you’ll be sued.”
Beckinsale praised Blake Lively for standing up for herself and expressed her belief that “everyone in EVERY industry should be taken seriously and not punished when something egregious happens to them at work.” Lively’s lawsuit, filed on December 20, 2024, accuses her It Ends with Us co-star, Justin Baldoni, of sexual harassment on set. Beckinsale’s heartfelt message serves as a reminder of the challenges women face in the entertainment industry, as well as the importance of standing up for oneself and demanding accountability.
