Ken Jeong, best known for playing the delightfully chaotic Ben Chang in Community, recently shared his heartfelt reaction to reading the script for the highly anticipated Community movie. Fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on the film, which was first announced in 2022 and is being produced by Anthony and Joe Russo.
In an interview with TV Insider, Jeong admitted that diving into the script sent him on an emotional trip down memory lane, instantly reconnecting him with the spirit of the beloved sitcom.
“It made me emotional and just brought me right back,” he said, before joking that was all he could legally reveal for now.
While he remained tight-lipped about specific details, Jeong confirmed that a script is completed and a plan is in place. However, the timeline for production is still uncertain. He described the prospect of reuniting with his co-stars as both “magical” and deeply emotional, something he can already visualize.
“There is a script, there is a plan. We just don’t know when [it will happen]. Once that’s agreed upon, it’ll be magical and really emotional. I think being on set, experiencing that again, [will be] so gratifying. Words can’t even express,” Jeong added.
Beyond his own excitement, Jeong took a moment to acknowledge the show’s fanbase, calling them the most dedicated audience he has ever encountered.
“When the show was on the air, we had the most devoted fans of any project I’ve ever done. The most devoted fans,” he said.
Originally airing from 2009 to 2015, Community followed the quirky adventures of a diverse study group at Greendale Community College. The cult-favorite series starred an ensemble cast, including Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, Yvette Nicole Brown, Chevy Chase, and Jeong himself.
The upcoming movie is expected to bring fans back into the world of Greendale, promising a mix of nostalgia, comedy, and heartfelt reunions.
