The 30th Kolkata International Film Festival will feature Suman Ghosh’s most recent documentary, Parama: A Journey with Aparna Sen, the director recently revealed.
Following its international premiere at the esteemed International Film Festival Rotterdam in January 2024, the documentary was shown at the BFI London Indian Film Festival, Houston, New York, Vienna, and Stuttgart. On December 5 at 1.30 p.m., Parama will be screened at Sisir Mancha, and on December 8, at Nandan 3 at 5 p.m.
The late actor Soumitra Chatterjee was also in Ghosh’s 2019 film Basu Paribar, which was directed by Sen. The National Award-winning filmmaker shared on Facebook, “Our film will be screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival. Delighted to show it to my home city at last.”
Ghosh quoted, “In my 15 years of cinematic journey, I have never been able to crack Rotterdam. I have been to many other top film festivals but always thought Rotterdam was a tough nut to crack. The main satisfaction of entering such a top film festival is that I might have been able to make something that might be universal. That is how I see my subject.”
In 2021, Aparna Sen, a celebrated director who has won nine National Awards, helmed her third Hindi film, The Rapist. At the 26th Busan International Film Festival, this gripping social drama—which featured strong performances by Konkona Sensharma and Arjun Rampal—won the prestigious Kim Jiseok Award.
In October, the MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival saw the debut of Suman Ghosh’s most recent feature film, Puratawn, which marked Sharmila Tagore’s comeback to Bengali cinema after a 14-year break.
