Maharashtra: 10 injured in blast at a firecracker factory in Palgarh district

A huge cloud of smoke created panic in the villagers around. The Vangaon-Dahanu-Wada belt has a number of firecracker factories and storage houses. And according to sources it has been said that most of the factory units and storage houses in the district were illegal.

On Thursday morning, at least 10 workers were injured in a blast inside of a fire cracker factory in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The local MLA said that it could have been due to a triggering by sparks from an ongoing welding work.

Dahanu MLA, Vinod Nikole, who was at the spot of the incident, said that the injured among the 100 of workers present inside the premises Vishal Fireworks were rushed to the Cottage Hospital. He also mentioned that most of the workers ran out of the unit in panic after the blast occurred, which was heard from even several kilometres away. The factory is located at Dehane village, which is about 15 kilometres from the Vangaon-Dahanu Road.

The MLA said that two fire tenders from the Dahanu municipal council and Adani Thermal Power station were engaged in the fire fighting operation which was obstructed by strong winds and rains.

The MLA also said that the Dahanu police led by the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Datta Nalawade was supervising the operation on the spot. The district administration or the fire department was yet to comment on the cause of the blast and the extent of the damage, comments were also not made on the fire fighting operation.

The identified injured were Navneet Lote (32), Mahesh More (40), Asif Khan (32), Premchand Chavan (25) and Sukhdev Singh (50).
