Mickey 17 To Be Premiered At The Berlin Film Festival

Bong Joon Ho’s highly anticipated science fiction film Mickey 17 is set to make waves at the Berlin Film Festival, marking the international premiere of his first directorial effort since the success of Parasite. According to Variety, the film, which has a budget of $118 million, will be released in South Korea on February 28, 2025, before its global release the following week.

Mickey 17 is based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7, which follows the adventures of the titular character, Mickey Barnes, who is sent on dangerous missions to help colonize an ice planet. The film explores the intriguing concept of Mickey being “recreated” after dying on each mission, with each new version carrying memories from its predecessors.

The movie stars Robert Pattinson in the lead role, alongside Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. With the legacy of Parasite—which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and made history by becoming the first foreign-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture—Mickey 17 is expected to be another groundbreaking project for Bong Joon Ho. Some reports even suggest that the film may have a premiere in South Korea before its debut at the Berlinale.
