Is ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ launch date officially postponed?

The upcoming spy comedy series Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Prime Video has had its launch date officially postponed by Amazon Studios due to the current Hollywood strikes. Donald Glover, a Golden Globe winner, and Maya Erskine, an Emmy nominee, feature in the comedy. The series will now premiere in early 2024 instead of its original November 2023 release date.

A fresh image from Mr. and Mrs. Smith has also been made public, giving viewers a fresh glimpse at Glover’s John and Erskine’s Jane. Phoebe Waller-Bridger was originally cast to play the latter, however she left the film as a result of creative disagreements.

What is the plot of Mr. and Mrs. Smith?

“Meet the Smiths: Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners – in espionage and in marriage,” the synopsis says.

The episodes follow them as they go on new missions and reach new stages in their relationship after being matched by an unknown agency. They have to struggle to remain united once the fractures start to show. Because divorce is not an option in this marriage.
Based on the same-named action comedy by Doug Liman from 2005, Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a reboot series.

The Cast

Michaela Coel, Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, John Turturro, and Paul Dano will be appearing with Glover and Erskine.

Know the Makers

Glover and Francesca Sloane, who are both serving as showrunners for the series, co-created it and served as executive producers. The undertaking is a component of Glover’s larger contract with Amazon Studios. Executive producers include Jenny Robins of Wells Street Films, Michael Schaefer, and Yariv Milchan of New Regency.

Simon Kinberg and Doug Liman wrote and directed the first movie. It was centred on a wealthy married couple who were shocked to discover that they were both assassins working for different agencies and had been given the task of killing each other.
