National Unity Day 2023: Learn the Pledge that government offices take

Vallabhbhai Patel, the first home minister of India, was known as “Sardar” (chief) for his ability to guide the nation through many difficult times, including the 1947 India-Pakistan War and the integration of the princely states. His birth anniversary is celebrated as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

The Central government of India announced in 2014 that October 31 would be the new National Unity Day. The statement read, “This will offer a chance to reinforce the innate power and toughness of our country to confront the real and possible dangers to the unity, integrity, and safety of our nation.”

The Pledge

On this auspicious day, a pledge is read by government offices, which is as follow:

“I solemnly pledge that I dedicate myself to preserve the unity, integrity, and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure the internal security of my country.”
