Exactly one year ago, we introduced Edits, an app designed for editing and creating videos directly on your phone. This app was developed in collaboration with creators to support their entire creative process.
As we celebrate the first anniversary of Edits, developed both with and for creators, I want to reflect on our journey and share what we are excited to develop next.
The Best Editing Tools, All in One Place
Since Edits was launched, our focus has been on creating powerful tools that creators need, making them available in a video editor that is both simple and user-friendly. Initially, we aimed to eliminate real-world obstacles. Creators mentioned difficulties in reading scripts from their notes while filming, so we integrated an in-app teleprompter. This feature allows users to speak directly to their audience with confidence, adjusting text size and speed as needed.
We will continue enhancing our core tools, with upcoming upgrades for captions, including bilingual options, advanced color adjustments, speed curves, and more. Additionally, we are working towards making most of the app’s tools customizable, allowing users to start with existing features and tweak them to their liking.
A Creative Home You Make Your Own
Edits was also developed to support the entire video editing process, from inspiration and ideas to feedback after sharing. Instead of switching between multiple apps to create one video, Edits consolidates everything into a seamless workspace.
The Ideas tab hosts your saved Instagram reels and audio alongside sticky notes for your next big idea. As you use Edits, it becomes more personalized with an inspiration feed based on your posts, insights summarizing your comments, and weekly ideas created just for you.
Over the next year, expect more customization options, such as pinning favorite tools, gaining insights about followers, and starting each project with a personalized setup.
Creating Together
At Edits, we believe creativity flourishes in a community through mentorship, encouragement, and education. We’ve collaborated with creators like Ethan Barber and Cole Bennett to incorporate their creative methods into Edits for everyone to try.
By selecting an Edits template, you can access the project file to see its creation process, including the use of trending audio, and then adapt it to your style. Soon, more complex templates with overlays, keyframes, and video effects will be available.
In the coming year, expect more examples and techniques from creators, along with easier ways to exchange creative elements through the app.
What’s Next
Our goal is to develop tools that bring your creativity to life, from the initial spark of inspiration to the final product. If you haven’t tried Edits yet, give it a go and tag @creators to showcase your work. Your feedback on Instagram and Threads is vital as it directly influences what we build next.
