India’s largest airline IndiGo has decided to encourage vaccination by offering a 10 per cent discount on the base fare to customers if they are vaccinated against Coronavirus. The announcement was made by the airline in a press release on Wednesday. The discount offer assumes significance considering that airfares continue to be regulated by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
According to IndiGo Airlines, the offer will strengthen the customer’s resolve to get vaccinated while also ensuring that “they can travel safely at affordable fares with Indigo”. Encouraging more people to take part in the vaccination drive is the company’s responsibility, the airline added in the press release.
The airline informed that customers above the age of 18 years who have got vaccinated against COVID-19 and are located in the country at the time of booking can avail the benefit of the scheme.
Those who avail of the discount under the scheme will be required to show a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Indian government at the airport checking counter or boarding gate. . “Alternatively, they can display their vaccination status on the Aarogya Setu mobile application,” IndiGo added.
Such discounts are already being offered by many airlines across the world. In Europe, some airlines are also offering vaccination on arrival in coordination with the health authorities of the countries.
Earlier this month, Indigo emerged as the most punctual airline in the country with a 98.7% on-time performance. Its market share in the Indian domestic aviation industry also increased to 55.3% in the month of May.
