Rahul Dravid adapted Australian structure to provide a solid pool for Indian cricket

Chappell believes India’s win highlighted the country’s extremely successful player development scheme, as even their rookies had considerable international experience.

Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Washington Sundar, and Devdutt Padikkal have shown the world India’s young and talented cricketing ability. Indian cricket is no longer reliant on two or three old names, but it has grown so far in the last few years that it can compete with the best in their own backyard without their first-choice stars.

Greg Chappell, an Australian legend, credits former India captain Rahul Dravid with “taking up” the Australian “brains” to build a strong domestic system that has acted as a feeder line for his country’s national team, something Australia desperately needs.

“India have got their act together and that’s largely because Rahul Dravid has picked our brains, seen what we’re doing, and replicated it in India and with their much larger (population) base,” Chappell stated in an interview.

Chappell, one of the finest batsmen to have played the game, cautioned that talented Australian cricketers might find their careers at crossroads because of the domestic structure. “Historically, we’ve been one of the best at developing young players and keeping them in the system, but I think that’s changed in the last couple of years,” he said.

Greg Chappell further discusses the potential players with a lot of talent who are stuck in limbo which he believes is not appropriate since they can’t afford to lose any one of our players. The 72-year-old believes Australia has lost the right to brag about being the best at spotting talent.

Though former India captain Dravid is also considered as the ‘unofficial’ go-to-man of India’s senior national selection committee when it comes to supplying the national team with the ideal bench power, this may be the first time in a long time that a coach is formally attending a BCCI selection meeting.

Dravid has had a train of success in producing the best of talents to the Indian cricket team. People like Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson who’ve performed exceptionally well were sowed by Dravid in the past. He will continue using the masterstroke to the best of his abilities.
