Sunday’s train operations on the Secunderabad–Vijayawada route were completely suspended as a result of strong rains that destroyed railway tracks in multiple areas of the Mahabubabad district. At the Mahabubabad railway station, the Machilipatnam Express, Simhapuri Express, and other trains became stuck. Local authorities provided food and drink to the passengers.
There have been numerous reports of severe damage throughout the route. Over ten feet of railway track was partially swept away at the Tallapusapalli station in Kesamudram Mandal, while thirty feet of track was left hung in midair at Initikanne after the Peddamori cheruvu overflowed and eroded the track.
The area has experienced unusually high levels of precipitation; in just 23 hours, 43.80 cm of rain fell in Inuguruthy Mandal in Mahabubabad district. Significant damage has also been sustained in other regions, such as Chinnagudur (42.8 cm), Nellikudur (41.6 cm), and Nekkonda Mandal in the Warangal district (43.55 cm).
The heavy rain has caused flooding in Mulugu district’s Eturunagaram agency region, cutting off traffic on the Eturunagaram-Warangal route. Waterlogging in cotton fields has been observed in the Bhupalpalli district, which has severely impacted agricultural activities.
Widespread power outages owing to fallen electric poles have exacerbated the disturbance, with some houses in Eturunagaram reporting appliance damage from lightning strikes. As the region deals with catastrophic weather, authorities are working to restore normalcy.
