Indian railway is currently planning a new way of asset monetisation model for DFCs – dedicated freight corridors in which the timing will be allocated to private companies/parties through a bidding process.
In a budget speech FM Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government was looking for a way to monetize both eastern and western DFCs. The initial monetisation plan includes leasing out the tracks to private parties for operating trains and also allowing telecom companies to use DFCs 2800 km optic fibre network.
The plan is to make a detailed chart of the timetable of the trains and the paths available in the the detailed plan of action will be sold to private candidates. And for the fibre optic network, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation -DFCCIL has signed the MoU with RailTel Corporation. DFCCIL is looking to complete both the process of EDFC and WDFC by June 2022.
