Ravichandran Ashwin is a fighter, and it’s a little harsh to criticise his SENA performance: Dinesh Karthik

Ravichandran Ashwin’s performances in the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries are unfairly scrutinized. According to India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, who said that the India off-spinner is a dedicated student of the game who strives to develop every day.

In an interview with Sports Today, Dinesh Karthik stated that there are plenty of positive things to say about Ashwin and that the focus on his SENA performances is unnecessary. Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar mentioned Ashwin’s SENA statistics, claiming that the off-spinner has yet to take a 5-wicket haul in any of the countries mentioned.

Manjrekar used Ashwin’s SENA results to argue that he isn’t yet among the all-time greats. Although Ashwin is only the fourth Indian bowler to reach 400 Test wickets. His SENA performances have always been scrutinized. In 20 matches, Ashwin has 63 wickets at an average of over 40.

In India’s triumphant tour of Australia, though, Ashwin stole the show with the ball, taking 12 wickets in just 3 matches in difficult condition for spinners.

Meanwhile, Karthik also stated that India will play a bold line-up in the World Test Championship final in Southampton. Including both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI.

“I feel both Jadeja and Ashwin should play together. A, they are a very potent combination. B, it’s Southampton and it aids a bit of turn. I have no doubt they can cause inroads. If India put up a good first innings total, India has the spinners who can get wickets”.
