The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is actively working to recover deleted data from the mobile phones of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station. The investigation is part of an ongoing probe into the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor.
According to sources, the CBI has uncovered strong evidence suggesting that Ghosh and Mondal intentionally deleted messages exchanged on August 9, the day the victim’s body was found in the seminar hall. Investigators believe the deletion was an attempt to hide their communication during the crucial time when the crime was discovered.
Additionally, the CBI is trying to retrieve recordings of calls made between Ghosh and Mondal from the morning of August 9 until the victim’s cremation that evening. Both men had their phones set to “auto-call recording mode,” meaning all conversations were automatically recorded, but these recordings appear to have been deleted to obstruct the investigation.
The deleted messages and call recordings are seen as key evidence that could strengthen the case against Ghosh and Mondal, who are accused of misleading the initial police investigation. Last week, Mondal refused a polygraph test, while Ghosh initially agreed but later rejected a narco-analysis test. The CBI is now seeking assistance from a special court in Kolkata.
