The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has identified significant procedural lapses during the post-mortem of the female doctor in the R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital rape and murder case. Sources reveal that among eight bodies examined at the morgue on August 9, only the victim’s body was autopsied after sunset, breaching standard protocols.
The body, found in a seminar hall on the same morning, underwent a rapid autopsy, completed in just 70 minutes, raising suspicion due to the case’s gravity. Investigators believe this haste, along with the timing of the autopsy, may have been deliberate to expedite cremation and avoid a second examination.
Despite the victim’s parents requesting to preserve the body for at least a day, their plea was disregarded by hospital officials. Additionally, the post-mortem report was criticized for lacking professionalism and proper technical language.
Investigators are also concerned about the inadequate lighting in the morgue, which affected the quality of the autopsy’s video recording. Whether the videography was conducted properly is now under scrutiny. Furthermore, the victim’s family requested a representative be present during the autopsy, but this request was denied by authorities.
Governor C.V. Ananda Bose recently raised concerns over the initial Kolkata Police investigation, particularly criticizing the “hurried disposal of the body against the parents’ wishes,” further intensifying the controversy surrounding the case.
