During a protest against the rape-murder case in Kolkata, a man allegedly showed his private parts to a woman. Despite being apprehended by other protestors, the police let him to depart, which sparked controversy. The woman was sexually harassed at a rally in Kolkata near the Esplanade crossing, which is one of the city’s busiest crossings. Following the event, other activists apprehended the man and notified nearby police, according to India Today.
According to sources, the police identified the individual as a local who was also mentally sick. The cops then permitted him to depart, infuriating the protesters. Protesters began to agitate against the police, demanding urgent punishment against the cops and the accused individual.
Protesters, fuelled by rage and fury, gathered outside the deputy commissioner of police’s (central) office, demanding justice and responsibility. The woman filed a complaint, and a case has been opened under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have opened an investigation and are studying CCTV material to identify and find the suspect.
The woman and other protestors have asked the police to take immediate and proper measures to protect the safety and dignity of all residents who participate in peaceful protests. The event occurred at a protest sponsored by the “Amra Tilottoma” group against the horrendous rape-murder case at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
