Inspired by the unfortunate RG Kar Medical College case, a unique Ganpati decoration in Kalina, Mumbai, is receiving notice for its strong message against violence against women. The barbaric rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 is the subject of Shubham Vanmala’s pandal, which was made at the age of 28. The crime has provoked protests and national outrage all throughout the country.
Shubham Vanmala, a private aircraft security officer with a passion for current affairs, spent 15 days making the decorations. Posters showing atrocities against women are displayed beside cardboard models of the Supreme Court, RG Kar Medical College, the West Bengal Assembly, and Lady Justice’s statue.
“The Kolkata horror and other recent incidents have raised concerns about women’s safety, so I chose this theme for the Ganpati festival this year,” Vanmala said. His previous works have included themes on the 9/11 attacks and hospitals during the COVID pandemic.
The pandal has attracted a regular stream of visitors, with many admiring its thoughtfulness and timely message. Vanmala expects that Lord Ganesh will punish the Kolkata case’s offenders severely. The tragedy has also sparked massive protests, with doctors in various regions going on strike and citizen groups demanding justice on a daily basis. Vanmala’s pandal serves as a reminder of the importance of combating violence against women in society.
