Indian captain Rohit Sharma threw his cap in frustration in the dressing room after Sarfaraz Khan and Ravindra Jadeja’s confusion cost India their sixth wicket on Day 1 of the third Test against England. On Thursday, Indian skipper Rohit smashed a superb century to help the team recover from a poor start in the third Test at Rajkot, bringing an end to his low-scoring streak in the five-match series against Ben Stokes’ men.
Joe Root dropped Rohit at 27, but the experienced opener went on to create a 204-run partnership with local star Jadeja. Rohit Sharma led Team India over a bad start, hitting 131 off 196 balls. After his dismissal, debutant Sarfaraz Khan teamed up with an in-form Jadeja, who was closing in on a century during the third session. Sarfaraz joined Jadeja at the crease in the 64th over, after he had scored 84 off 153 balls.
In the nervous 90s, Jadeja went into a shell and turned down Sarfaraz for a single, which allowed England’s Mark Wood to demonstrate his on-field brilliance. Jadeja smashed the ball straight to the mid-onfielder while batting at 99, leaving Sarfaraz standing. Wood grabbed on the chance, hitting a magnificent direct hit at the non-sriker’s end to dismiss Sarfaraz on James Anderson’s last delivery of the 81st over.
Watching the dismissal from the dugout, Rohit expressed his anger by throwing his cap, as the Indian captain was visibly furious with the Indian batters.
