Simona Halep who lifted the French Open title in 2018 has been ruled of the French Open 2021 due to a severe tear in her left calf muscle. The withdrawal from the current year’s tournament was announced on Thursday after the Romanian professional failed to recover from the injury.
“Unfortunately the tear in my left calf muscle needs more time to recover and the timeline is just too short. Withdrawing from a Grand Slam goes against all my instincts and aspirations as an athlete”, said Halep.

The 2018 French Open champion was also ranked as World’s NO.1 in singles between 2017 and 2019. She has claimed two Grand Slam titles in 2018 by winning the French Open followed by in 2019 by celebrating the Wimbledon Championship title.
