Here’s everything you need to know about “Exhuma”.
Plot
A affluent Korean American family hires renowned Korean shaman Hwa-rim (Kim Go-eun) and her apprentice Bong-gil (Lee Do-hyun) to diagnose their newborn son’s unexplained condition. Hwa-rim discovers that the curse is actually a “Grave’s Call,” the ghost of a jealous ancestor tormenting them. Park Ji-Yong, the head of the family, gave them the task of moving the burial in order to please his grandfather, the ancestor. Hwa-rim recruits two associates, an undertaker named Yeong-geun (Yoo Hae-jin) and a Feng shui expert named Kim Sang-deok (Choi Min-sik). The ceremony is performed by Hwa-rim and Bong-gil, and the excavation goes without a hitch. However, when tidying up, one of the grave diggers severes the head of a snake with a human head, bringing rain and a bad omen.
Once the rain stops, Yeong-geun insists on cremating the coffin, so they store it at a nearby ward. A vision shows Ji-yong’s grandfather’s grave acting as a cover for the relic, which is Monk Kitsune’s embedding of a katana into the body of a decapitated samurai, converting the samurai into a ghoul. Sang-deok discovers that the artefact is a blade that has been lodged in the beast. Sang-deok uses his understanding of feng-shui to kill the samurai, which causes him to pass out. Later, he and the others by his bedside awaken.
