Sri Lanka players denied to sign the central contract

The Sri Lankan team refused to sign the annual central contract due to a lack of transparency from the cricket board. The decision was not that shocking as almost all the main experienced players in unison made it clear that the contracts offered by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) were not according to their taste and also excluded some deserving performers.

The players stated that they have decided not to sign the tour contract for the forthcoming tour of England and neither the team will enter into any future contracts for tours. The Sri Lanka Cricket had announced that 24 of the experienced players were offered contracts under 4 categories and they had been given a deadline until the 3rd of June to sign the contract. However, the senior players were also not happy as public exposure of their central contract created by SLC became a grave security concern to each and every player. The players claimed that the board’s decision had kind of damaged their self-confidence and peace of mind.

The chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) Aravinda de Silva had defended the new performance-liked system and said that SLC was forced to take such a harsh decision based on the past performances of the players as Sri Lanka’s international ranking in all 3 formats isn’t that great.
