Sri Lankan pacer Shiran Fernando tests negative for Covid-19 in third round

Sri Lanka seamer Shiran Fernando who had tested positive for Covid-19 prior to the first ODI against Bangladesh on Sunday has now reported a negative result after undergoing the third round of the RT-PCR test on Wednesday.

Shiran had tested positive prior to the first ODI along with pace bowler Isuru Udana and coach Chaminda Vaas. But, Udana and Vass tested negative after the second round of test, whereas Fernando continued to test positive.

After Fernando tested negative, Bangladesh’s team spokesperson Rabeed Imman informed that the Lankan pacer had tested negative in the last RT-PCR test.

Although the right-arm fast bowler recovered from the disease, he did not attend the practice session on Wednesday afternoon at Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Academy premises.

‘Tigers’, who have already captured the series after winning the first two ODIs, will face Sri Lanka in the third ODI on Friday as the visitors look to evade a clean sweep.

After Sri Lanka lost a bilateral series for the very first time against Bangladesh,  former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya was very upset about it.

Jayasuriya took to Twitter and wrote, “As a past player and captain it’s very difficult for me to come to terms with the first series loss to Bangladesh. National pride is at stake boys fight to the last,”

Jayasuriya who was also the former Sri Lanka captain has scored close to 7,000 runs from 110 Tests and 13,430 runs from 445 ODIs.
