Sri-Lankan Thisara Perera retires from international cricket, confirms on playing franchise tournaments

Thisara Perera has played for three IPL franchise including Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings

The 32-year old Sri-Lankan Thisara Perera all-rounder confirms retirement from all formats in international cricket. He will no longer play for Sri Lanka but has confirmed will continue to play franchise cricket. Perera was well known for his accurate and well-maintained bowling and ball-striking ability down the order. Perera has taken a hat-trick in Both ODI and T20 and has been the winner of the 2014 T20I World Cup as well.

PERERA’s ODI CAREER 

Perera has played 166 matches scoring 2338 runs at a strike rate of 112.08 with ten fifties and one hundred. His best ODI figure is 140 off just 57 balls which came against New Zealand in 2019. However, Sri Lanka lost that match by 21 runs. Perera has also struck 175 wickets with an impressive economy of 5.84 and includes four five-wicket-haul. His ODI best bowling figure is six wickets for 44 run while playing against Pakistan.

PERERA’s TEST CAREER 

Perera didn’t play many Tests in his cricketing career. He has played only six matches scoring 203 runs including a fifty. Perera managed to take eleven wickets in his extremely short Test career.

PERERA’s T20 CAREER

Perera has played 84 T20 international matches scoring 1204 runs with a strike rate of 151.64. He has scored three fifties at an average of just 23.15. Perera with the ball has succeeded in taking 51 T20I wickets with his personal best three wickets for 24 runs.

PERERA’s IPL CAREER 

Perera’s short span in IPL consisted of 37 matches with 422 runs. He didn’t score much with the bat in the Indian Premier League. Perera has also taken 31 wickets with the ball with an economy of 8.73. The Sri Lankan has played for three different IPL franchises naming Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kochi Tuskers Kerela.

For starters, Perera has indicated that his involvement with the Jaffna Stallions LPL franchise, will continue as the captain for now.
