Author of Star Trek 4 Lindsey Anderson Beer has provided clarification in an interview with Collider regarding the status of the film’s long-gestating fourth chapter in the J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek movie series. Beer affirmed that the eagerly anticipated production is still in progress at Paramount Pictures despite its setbacks.
“It is, it’s still on the tracks,” she affirmed. “I adore that project, but I had to leave it in order to direct this film, and it was a difficult decision to make. But I appreciate everyone who worked on that project”. It’s not yet known, though, whether Beer already departed Star Trek 4 to concentrate on directing Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, or if her work on the film is still on pause.
Nearly four years have passed since Paramount Pictures announced that Star Trek 4 was in production. The project has gone through numerous creative modifications since then, including director changes. After Paramount opted to omit Star Trek 4 from its 2023 theatrical release calendar, fans started to question whether the film would ever be made last year.
Star Trek 4 was revealed to be in active development in early 2022 by producer J.J. Abrams during Paramount’s Investors Day Presentation. Original cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg were expected to return. Since WandaVision’s Matt Shakman left the project owing to schedule difficulties with Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four, the film presently lacks a director.
