Ahead of the first TT20I between India and Australia in Vizag, stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav expressed surprise at the low media presence during the pre-match press conference. There were only two journalists present, so Yadav jokingly remarked, “Only 2 people?” before answering their questions.
The two reporters, most likely from the news agencies PTI and ANI, took turns asking Suryakumar various questions. Surya’s expressions suggested that he was ready to answer more questions, but the reporters almost ran out of questions.
The T20I series between India and Australia starts just four days after Australia won the ODI World Cup Final in Ahmedabad on November 19, securing their 6th trophy. The swift transition from the emotional World Cup final to the T20I series was challenging for both sides, and players needed to quickly refocus and prepare for the following matches.
Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah are among the notable absentees from India’s T20I team for the series against Australia. In upcoming games, the squad is likely to give opportunities to emerging talents from the Asian Games side.
