The ICC looks through T20I World Cup venues in Middle East

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said that the final decision regarding the venues for the T20I World Cup will be taken later this month. Along with that, it has also asked the management to look for hosting options in the UAE or other venues in the Middle East. As the T20 World Cup is scheduled in the month of October-November this year.

This decision came out just two days after the BCCI requested the ICC in its Special General Meeting to give a month’s time to search possibilities to host this mega tournament in India itself.  The questions over India hosting the 2021 T20 World Cup arise due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the country and the prediction of a third wave in the near future. As BCCI’s decision to move on IPL out of India due to multiple cases inside a secure bio-bubble weakens the case significantly.  For the 16 teams, World Cup will require multiple bio-bubbles to operate and similar to how it was during IPL 2021 in India before it got suspended.

The ICC said in its release that the final decision regarding the host country will be taken later this month. The Board also confirmed that the BCCI will remain the host of the event no matter where the event will be played.
