The second week of the Indian Premier League has given us, as always, many emotions. The Australian Patrick James Cummins has been exalted and if Kolkata Knight Riders are first (even if with one match more than others), and the top betting sites in India consider this team among the possible title contenders, it’s due to the player born in 1993 in Westmead, South Wales. Gujarat Titans also did very well, and with the contribution of Hardik Pandya they got six points, in line with the average to win the title.
The Indian cricket weekend also gave us back a Kuldeep Yadav in full form, with 50 total wickets and a bowling figures 4/20, which however are not enough for Delhi Capitals to reach six points, with a Run Rate of 0.476. The famous magazine SportStar has hypothesized a dream team of 2022, and in the eleven players we obviously find Virat Kohli who needs only 52 runs to reach the record of 1000 total runs, followed by MS Dhoni at 737, and Suresh Raina at 616, the latter two being part of CSK, team which is still with zero points in the standings.
But it is currently Jos Buttler who occupies the first position in terms of points. The player, born in Taunton in the UK in 1991, has a total of 218 runs and is well ahead of Quinton De Kock, second in this ranking at 188 runs. The Rajasthan Royals are first and among the absolute favorites also and above all for the presence of the Englishman and the captain and expert Sanju Samson. Particularly positive moment for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, reached their third consecutive victory that allows them to reach Buttler & Co. at six points at the top of the standings with a run rate of 0.294. Protagonist of this golden period of the Royal Challengers Bangalore is certainly Anuj Rawat, who in the match against the Mumbai Indians (still at zero points after four games) has secured well 66 (47). Watch out also for Gujurat Titans, who just like Royal Bangalore come from three consecutive wins. A superb Shubman Gill was timing the ball to perfection, and impacted deeply in the Titans’ win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets om Friday.
The fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League seems more than ever a struggle involving several teams. Barring any surprises the Mumbai Indians will not be participating in this race, which is however currently the team with the most trophies in the IPL. The Kolkata Knight Riders are on top of the table with 16 points, while the Delhi Capitals are at the second position with 14 points. After a very good start to their campaign, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost their way a bit and are currently placed at the third spot with 12 points. The Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab are placed fourth and fifth respectively with 10 points each. With just two games remaining in the league stage, it is still anybody’s game.
